Hugh Jackman has confirmed that his X-Men days will be over with after Wolverine 3. Speaking on The Dr Oz Show, Jackman said he would retire from the role in 2017. His first X-Men movie appearance was in 2000. In March, the X-Men star posted a cryptic Instagram post showing his mutant blades with the caption "WOLVERINE... ONE LAST TIME". "It is my last time," he confessed. "It felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out." The third solo Wolverine film will star Jackman and Patrick Stewart in a still unknown plot. The as-yet-untitled Wolverine sequel is due to open in cinemas on 3 March 2017.
